One of the top shooters in Wisconsin could come off the board next month. At the conclusion of his AAU season, Wauwatosa West shooting guard Jake Hansen is getting close to crunch time in his recruitment and one school has been turning up the heat this summer.
“Right now, I’ve been talking to Buffalo a lot,” Hansen told NY2LA Sports. “I’ve been keeping up with them and visit them in the coming weeks.”
“They seem to want me and they’re making an effort to get out to our games, keep in contact on a weekly basis. They got a pretty new coaching staff. They’re rebuilding right now. I think I could come in and help those guys win.”
Hansen has scholarship offers from St. John’s, Arizona State, Buffalo, Cal Poly, and Grambling State. The 6-foot-1 guard also hearing from Lehigh, Princeton, and South Dakota this summer.
“I think Princeton and Lehigh (are serious),” he said. “They’re in the evaluation process of seeing how guys fit in, seeing where I fit in, and how I can help them out.”
Hansen has yet to set an official visit with Buffalo or any other program, but plans to iron out a date in the near future.
“I definitely want to figure out where I’m headed before the school year starts,” he said. “This August is going to be big for finalizing where I see myself going. I don’t want to be worried about where I’m going during my senior season. I think it will be good to take that off my shoulders.”
“I’m looking for a good academic school and which coaches are generally interested in me.”
As a junior, Hansen averaged 17.1 points points per game, while knocking down 60 3-pointers. The Trojans will have a new look in 2024-25 as senior Kai Rogers, the team’s leading scorer, rebounder, and shot blocker will take his talents to overtime elite. That puts a bullseye on Hansen this winter.
“It’s gonna be a lot different, but I’m ready to embrace that role,” he said. “I think we’re still gonna have a solid team and our play style will be a lot different. I think we’ll be able to surprise some people.”
Hansen played for Wisconsin Playground Club during the travel season.
