Senior Wes Rahn has made his college decision this past week. The 6’7” forward of Lakeside Lutheran High School and Wisconsin Academy announced his commitment to Minnesota Duluth.
Rahn said what drew him to Minnesota Duluth were more than just basketball. “The main things I like about Duluth are the relationships I’ve built with the coaches, the team culture, and the stability that exists in all aspects of the program,” he explained.
On the court, Rahn believes his style is a natural fit with the Bulldogs. “I’ve seen their style of play and feel that my game will fit well as a big who can make moves, but also sees the court well to find the open teammates,” he said on his future suiting up for the Bulldogs.
The commitment to Minnesota Duluth comes after he visited back in July. “It was really fun to be around the players to hear their perspectives on the basketball program, the university and life in Duluth,” Rahn said.
While he will reunite with his Wisconsin Academy teammate Jacob Hibner who recently announced his own commitment, Rahn emphasized that his choice was ultimately about finding the best fit. “From the start, I knew this decision was about finding the best fit for me as a person and as a player,” he said. “Throughout the recruiting process, it was clear how dedicated Coach Wieck was to helping me understand why UMD was the right fit for me in every way. In the end, it checked all the boxes. And, as a bonus – I get to continue my career with a great teammate and friend.” Rahn marks the third 2026 commitment already just from Wisconsin as Calvin Anderson has also made his pledge in addition to Hibner.
Rahn’s recruitment drew interest from across the region, as he also had offers from Northern Michigan, Winona State, Michigan Tech, and Minnesota State Moorhead. He was also starting to draw the interest from division one programs with the great development in his game to be one of the top forwards in Wisconsin’s 2026 class.
