UWSP Lands Another In-State Commitment

It has been a big several days of commitments from the Midwest coming from both the 2024 and 2025 classes. Amongst them have been Jack Cherry, Lee Marks, Xzavion Mitchell, Nate Nazos, Larry Olivier, Ronald Rutland, Jimmy Tarjan, among others have all announced their commitments. On Tuesday, Tyshawn Teague-Johnson added his name to this list committing to Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Teague-Johnson was one of the more versatile players still available in Wisconsin’s 2024 class. This season at Beloit Turner the 6’5” wing averaged 19.8 points on 56% shooting in addition to 11 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.6 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game. He was able to earn himself co-player of the year honors in the Rock Valley Conference as well to honorable mention all-state by the WBCA.

The commitment comes after Teague-Johnson visited Stevens Point earlier this month. “I really enjoyed how everyone was so polite and so welcoming,” he said about his visit. “I like the bond that the players at point have with each other and the care everyone has for one another up there,” he said about why he chose Stevens Point. “Along with the coaching staff’s experience and easiness to get along with.”

With Stevens Point, he is joining a program that has won four national titles over the past twenty years. “The coaching staff told me exactly how they’d use me and were very straight forward with me. I hope to be used as a wing that can post whenever I feel the need and pop out to the perimeter if needed,” he said about his future on the court there.

Some of the other programs recruiting him included Carroll, Dubuque, Loras, Rock Valley, UW-La Crosse, UW-Whitewater, Winona State, among others. Some of the other players in Stevens Points 2024 recruiting class are Grant Manz and Brandon Tilley.

Teague-Johnson played with the Wisconsin Dynasty program.
