The newest commitment out of Illinois’ 2025 class to a division one program came from Damion Porter Jr. The 6’3” guard of Romeoville High School and the Midwest Renegades program announced his commitment to Tarleton State of the WAC.
“Definitely the coaching staff,” Porter responded with on why he chose Tarleton State. “Coach Gillispie and Cyprien were on me really heavy and made it known they wanted me there. Also, their resume speaks for itself as they have tons of ties with pros overseas and in the NBA. Lastly, they’re building a new $110 million dollar arena which seems like a lot of fun to be a part of.”
Tarleton State came along late in the recruitment of Porter. They just had offered him a scholarship last month. Detroit Mercy, Northern Illinois, Southern University, and Valparaiso had all also offered him previously. Porter has yet to visit the Texas school, but is planning on doing so coming up on February 1st for his official visit.
“I feel my game will translate perfectly in their system. Their a defense minded team, that loves to attack the rim and create for themselves and other. They also love sprinting the floor. All that sums up my play style perfectly,” Porter said on his future playing for Tarleton State.
