With the great progression of his game over the past year, Cade Gustafson has started to see his recruitment start up. The growth of his game has continued to soar during his junior season.
The 6’3” guard had a very good sophomore season at Waterford High School while averaging 17.2 points per game. With this he earned first team all-conference honors as well to academic all-state. He continued to build into his grassroots season with 24Up and now in his junior season where he is averaging 25.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2 steals per game for the 6-2 Waterford.
“This season is extremely important to my teammates and I, and so a breakout season isn’t possible without having a winning mindset each and every day and playing for each other,” Gustafson said about his breakout junior season. “Every guy on our team contributes in different ways but it all means the same amount, and for me whatever that may be each night, I’m trying to do whatever it takes for my team to be successful.”
When asked about goals for the rest of the season, Gustafson said “Competing for a conference championship and a big run into late March.” On a personal level, “Keep working and staying the course but also keeping my teammates involved because our goals can be achieved by staying together and winning games as a team.”
“Motor,” is how the junior first describes his game. “I play each game with energy and a drive to win because I hate losing and I always want to put my team in a spot to win. My game since fifth grade has revolved around my three-point shot but this year I have worked to improve my mid-range pull up and being able to get to the rim and finish. I also make sure to stay positive with my teammates and when they hit a big shot let them know and get them hyped up because my game is only successful from the things they are doing for me.
Over the summer Gustafson started to see his recruitment build with interest from both division two and three programs. Amongst the list of schools in contact with him include Northern Michigan, UW-La Crosse, UW-Parkside, Winona State, among others.
