After receiving offers and interest from a lengthy list of colleges, Roman Thompson has made his commitment. The 6’5” senior wing guard of Kettle Moraine High School and MTXE Premier will be staying in-state with his commitment to Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
“The coaches, facilities, and the culture are my favorite things,” Thompson first said about why he chose Eau Claire. “The fact that they’re elite in all of those aspects, and they’re an in-state school, was enough for me to commit.”
The commitment comes after Thompson took a pair of visits to the division three school over the past few months. “The first on August 13th and the second on October 5th. It was awesome seeing how beautiful the campus was for my first visit and stopping by for an open gym on my second visit really made it clear to me that Eau Claire is my home for college,” Thompson said. He had also taken visits to UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville, UW-Whitewater, among others during the span. Between the summer and fall, he has received offers from double digit division three and NAIA programs.
In his junior season, Thompson averaged 11.5 points helping Kettle Moraine to a 25-4 season. He then had a breakout grassroots season with MTXE as one of the better wing guards on the NY2LA Association. For his future playing for Eau Claire, he said “I can see myself impacting the team in many different ways, while it doesn’t have to be scoring. With my IQ, high energy, and skill, I know I can be a versatile instant impact. And with how much the coaches believe in me at Eau Claire, it’s just another confidence builder for the second I step on campus.”
