After being a big piece of a state championship team last season for Schoolcraft High School, Shane Rykse has transitioned into the star role this year. As a sophomore, the 6’3” guard averaged 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists but has greatly increased those numbers up to 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in his junior season.
With the boost in his game, college coaches have started taken notice in Rykse. He recently took a visit to Cleveland State of the Horizon League. “My visit went pretty good. It was really good for me to see the size of the guards at the next level and how intense the game is,” Rykse said. A couple things that he likes about Cleveland State at this point is how they run their offense around their guards and have a free style of play.
“Combo guard that will shoot from anywhere,” Rykse said to describe his own game. “I can play on the ball or off the ball with sneaky athleticism.” The scoring ability of his has been clear all throughout his high school career as he just scored his one thousand point in only his sixty fourth game. He has continued to build into one of the area’s premier 2024 shooters going seven for seven from deep in a recent game while scoring 32 points.
The recruitment for Rykse should continue to build this spring while playing with United Persuit.
