Recruitment Of Joshua Gibson Starting To Take Off

It has been a big July for Joshua Gibson. Not only has he been a star on the court with the Michigan Playmakers but the 6’2” rising senior point guard has also seen his recruitment heat up with some scholarship offers.

Last week Gibson picked up his first offer coming from Rockhurst University. Then this week, he added another offer with this one from Lake Superior State University. “It felt amazing to receive the offers from Rockhurst and Lake Superior. They are both very good programs, and I am very excited that these schools wanted me to be a part of them,” Gibson said.

When asked about the two schools who offered him, Gibson said “Both schools have amazing coaches. A thing I liked about Rockhurst is Coach Blackbourn’s focus on player development, as he wants his players to reach their highest potential and also his experience in recruiting. A thing I liked about Lake Superior was the experience and success Coach Hetting has, and of course the twenty-four seven gym access.”

With Gibson, the Michigan Playmakers were one of the top teams on the 17U level of the NY2LA Association this season. This included going 3-1 back in May during the live period at the Next Level Invitational as well to advancing to the platinum semifinals of Summer Jam. “We had a very good season as a team. We won several tournaments, and we glued together throughout the course of the season. Individually, my game got stronger, as I improved defensively, and found a balance between taking over a game and creating for my teammates.” In each of the past two weekends at both NY2LA Summer Jam and Final Chapter, Gibson was one of the leading scorers.

Gibson is looking at taking visits to both of the schools who have offered him in addition to Michigan Tech.
