With his standout junior season to now, Kain Kretschmar has continued to get on more college coaches’ radars as his game progresses and with all his translatable tools. In his junior season at Lake Zurich High School, he earned all-area and all-conference honors as the 6’4” two guard averaged 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.
Then into the spring, Kretschmar has been a key to the success of ALL IN Athletics on the Adidas Gold circuit. “Our team did good in the tournaments as we didn’t lose much, me personally I took a bigger role with helping the team succeed,” he said about his spring grassroots season.
Kretschmar has seen recruitment interest from numerous colleges around the region. Amongst these schools are Augustana, DePauw, Elmhurst, Hamline, Lake Forest, Ripon, St. Norbert, UW-Platteville, among several others.
When asked to describe his game, he said that he plays similar to recent NBA draft pick, Kon Knueppel. “I make the game slow and make the right decisions and reads, while getting downhill using my strength.” This is in addition to his good positional size in the backcourt at 6’4” along with his length and scoring ability highlighted by his outside shooting.
On goals for his July season, Kretschmar said “Make the most of it and hold nothing back. Make sure I’m ready for the season.” Colleges coaches can see him during the two upcoming live periods at the 3Stripes Gold Championships in South Carolina and then the NY2LA Summer Jam in Milwaukee.
