After being a breakout star this year, Jack Stanton has made his college commitment. The 6’2” guard announced his commitment to Princeton and head coach Mitch Henderson. The senior not only became one of the most sought after mid-major recruits in the region, but also drew a high major offer.
His year started with Stanton helping Downers Grove North advance all the way to the semifinals of the Illinois 4A state tournament. Then he was a big piece of the Breakaway Basketball team playing on the Under Armour Association who finished in the top eight this summer.
While Stanton entered 2023 without a single offer, that quickly changed as he built a list deep into double digits and became one of the most sought-after recruits in Illinois 2024 class. Amongst the lengthy list of schools to offer him included Bradley, Bucknell, Dartmouth, Illinois State, Penn, Rice, Stanford, Valparaiso, and Yale.
When asked why he chose Princeton, Stanton said “Their academics are the best in the nation, and they win. Coach Henderson did a great job really connecting with my family and I. It never felt like he was holding anything back and was very true to himself and the school itself.”
In his commitment post, Stanton wrote “I would like to thank Coach Henderson, Coach MacConnell and the Princeton basketball staff for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime…With that being said I’m excited to announce I have committed to the admissions process at Princeton University! Go Tigers!”
The Princeton coaching staff has continued to recruit the state of Illinois extremely well. They currently have a pair of Illinois natives on the roster in Caden Pierce and Blake Peters. The pair both played prominent roles in last year’s team that advanced to the Sweet 16.
