NY2LA Summer Jam – DG’s 17U Top Performers Part 2

Part two of the top performers I witnessed over the three days of the NY2LA Summer Jam tournament.

Jack Bookter – 2026 – G – Wisconsin Legends

Bookter has continued to score the ball very well all spring and summer and continued that here. This included a 26 point game in their showcase game to open the tournament Friday in a dominant win. He added in multiple other twenty plus point games to be one of the top scorers of the entire tournament. The guard did much of his scoring with his outside jumper but also showed good ability off the dribble both scoring it himself on the attack as well as creating for others. Bookter was also named a top performers last week at Final Chapter and should have plenty of colleges attention.

Codie Jones – 2026 – SG – Jay Academy

The 6’3” guard had one of the top scoring games of the tournament on Sunday. This included scoring 16 points just in the first half of a game and finished it with 27 points. In his high scoring output, Jones knocked down a staggering six threes as he can really light it up from the outside as a knockdown spot up shooter. Much more than just a shooter he is also a gifted slasher with his ability to finish in traffic. When Jones is on, there are few guards in Wisconsin’s 2026 class as good as him.

Hassan Makki – 2026 – SF – Michigan Warriors

Makki has continued to greatly impress in July and that was especially true at Summer Jam where he helped the Warriors to the championship game. In the semifinals he was able to score 22 points and then 17 points with a pair of threes in the title game. He has a very nice blend of size, strength, quickness, and skills. He plays hard and can battle against big men inside on both ends but also get out on the perimeter and make plays off the dribble as well as knock down shots. Makki has all the looks of a scholarship level player with how he has looked recently.

Colin Stack – 2026 – C – Full Package

The seven-footer was extremely effective throughout the entire tournament in helping Full Package capture the Platinum Elite championship. While he may not have always been putting up huge point totals, he did score it extremely efficiently as well to his dominant rebounding and rim protection. His rim protection including blocking seven shots in the championship game with not just his height and length but is agility around the paint. He was at his best scoring in the championship game where he was able to put up 18 points catching multiple lobs, aggressive on put backs, plus Stack also shoots it well spotting up from the outside.

Drelyn Truesdale – 2025 – SG – D Rice Elite

The 6’4” guard made a ton of plays throughout the tournament for D Rice Elite. This was especially the case down the stretch of the semifinals comeback attempt where he was doing it all and finished the game with 15 points and a handful of rebounds. He is a highly energetic player that can get in the paint and outrebound forwards as he scored on a couple key put backs late in the semifinals. Truesdale also has good length and athleticism to match up with multiple positions defensively very effectively. He also has a versatile skill set showing his ability to be a playmaker with the ball both getting to the rim and creating for others.

Owen VanderWaal – 2026 – PF – WM Premier

While VanderWaal has had some big performances over the past two years at NY2LA tournaments, he may have saved the best for his last game. In his final game, he scored 24 much needed points including some key ones late. He scored five points in the final minute with a three and then on the next possession, the game winning basket. At 6’7” with his strong build, he was able to be dominant both scoring and rebounding inside but continues to round out his game with improve perimeter abilities. This includes hitting jumpers, quicker with the ball with improved handle, and being a good passing big man. He recently picked up a division two offer and should have more looking his way.
