MINNESOTA LANDS IN-STATE COMMITMENT FROM ISAAC ASUMA

Minnesota and head coach Ben Johnson made a big splash to start off their 2024 recruiting class. They just received a commitment from one of the top, if not top ranked, in-state juniors with the verbal pledge from Isaac Asuma. The commitment comes after he just took a visit to Minnesota recently in February for their game against Penn State.

On Thursday following his high schools’ teams game, the 6’3” point guard of Cherry High School and D1 Minnesota announced his plans to stay nearby and suit up for the Gophers. Minnesota is landing a top one hundred fifty recruit nationally in the 2024 class and one of the top point guards in the region.

Minnesota made Asuma a priority early on in their 2024 class offering him back in April of last year while on a visit. His recruitment really took off last spring and summer during his play with D1 Minnesota. After receiving his offer from the Gophers, the point guard was then also offered by some prominent programs in Butler, Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska, and Xavier.

With the struggles of the Minnesota program over the last couple of season, the commitment of Asuma could signal an upswing for them beating out Big East, Big Ten, and Big Twelve schools. They landed a smooth lead guard with a skilled all-around game who could be their future floor general in a couple of seasons.

While Asuma is the Gophers first commitment in the 2024 class, they do have a major 2023 player locked in with guard Cameron Christie. Minnesota previously had a commitment from five-star center Ben Johnson in the 2023 class, but he recently asked for his release.
