We spotlight a few sophomores in the region who have already proven plenty on the hardwood and continue to greatly develop their game. Here are five players that should be on college coaches’ radars in the spring grassroots season.
Isaac Asmus – 2026 – PF – Aitkin (MN)
After having a strong grassroots season with the MN Comets, Asmus has continued to build his game in his sophomore season. Not only does he have good size at 6’8” but is a tough and aggressive player that contributes in a variety of ways on the floor including a lot of the dirty work inside.
Broker Buschor – 2026 – G – Darlington (WI)
The sophomore has been a big part of his team 14-1 record this season as he is averaging 15.6 points along with 7.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.2 steals. This all comes after a very good grassroots season with the Wisconsin Swing. Buschor has continued to prove he is an incredibly well-rounded guard who knows how to play and can really do a bit of everything on the floor.
Hayden Flavin – 2026 – PF – Clarkston (MI)
Flavin is a very effective and impactful power forward on both ends of the floor. At 6’7” with his solid frame he makes plenty of plays down in the paint on both ends but has a developing skill set to play out on the perimeter and moves well at his size. In his sophomore season he is averaging 8.4 points and 7.6 rebounds. He is just scratching his upside and is poised for a breakout spring.
Brody Owen – 2026 – G – Marquette (MO)
Owen was one of the more skilled 2026 guards last season on the NY2LA Association with Team Ramey. His skills have translated into a big sophomore season which includes a 25 point, 5 assists, and 4 steals game last week. Whether he is making plays off the dribble, creating for teammates, hitting outside shots from a high rate, Owen’ is a true playmaker with good feel.
Rykan Woo – 2026 – PG – Whitney Young (IL)
There are few sophomores in Illinois with the point guard skills of Woo as he has a very advanced game with his court vision, moves with the ball, and passing ability. Throughout his time with the Illinois Wolves and now with Whitney Young he has continuously proven his great playmaking ability and high IQ with the ball in his hands. As he becomes stronger and his physical tools catch up to his skills, Woo will be a must-see player.
