After a stellar freshman season last year, Michael Wilson has only continued to improve. He has been able to develop himself into not only one of the top sophomore prospects in Wisconsin but also one of the better players in the entire state regardless of class.
Last season as a freshman, he led Madison West High School in scoring with 18.4 points. Now into his sophomore season, he has been able to grow that number up to 26.8 points per game. “We didn’t win much (last year), so this year I’m just trying to be more aggressive on both ends of the floor,” Wilson said about the growth of his game in his sophomore season. In the season he has only continued to get better scoring 30 and 33 points in his two most recent games.
“I’m a pass first player but can score willingly,” he said describing his own game. “I’m averaging almost nine rebounds per game and that’s something else I’ve been trying to get better at.” One aspect of his game he is looking to improve upon is becoming more aggressive on the defensive side of the ball.
Even as one of the top recruits in Wisconsin’s 2026 class, his recruitment has been slow to this point as only a sophomore. Though there are plenty of tools to his game that make him a very intriguing prospect at the college level. He already has some size in the backcourt standing at 6’3” in addition to good toughness and athleticism. With his quickness and ability to overpower opposing guards, he excels playing on the attack but has continued to develop his outside shooting ability. He is also a very well-rounded player with his ability to run the point and be a facilitator as well as his tough defensive play. There are few sophomores that can impact a game at the varsity level in as many ways as he can. Look for him to become a popular name amongst college coaches at some point this year.
