Matt Buckman Headed to Hillsdale College

One of the biggest stock risers in Wisconsin’s 2025 class over the past year, Matt Buckman, announced his commitment on Tuesday. The 6’4” guard announced his future plans to attend Hillsdale College.

The growth in his game started in a junior season in which he Buckman averaged 25.7 point per game at Cambridge High School. This continued during the grassroots season with the Wisconsin Swing where he helped them be one of the top teams on the NY2LA Association.

“I really liked the coaching staff,” Buckman first said about his decision choosing Hillsdale. “They made me feel very welcomed and wanted from the second I stepped foot on campus. I also like the high academic standards they have at Hillsdale.”

When asked about his future playing at Hillsdale, Buckman said “I think my game will fit in early on at Hillsdale because of my versatility and the way I defend. I take care of the ball and attack the basket on offense, and I can play solid and aggressive defense on the other end. I think I will be able to find my role by continuing to do the little things to make an impact on the game.”

The commitment comes after Hillsdale had just offered Buckman last month at the end of June. He said that decided to make his commitment now as he called Hillsdale the “perfect spot for me.” Some of the other schools that were recruiting him included Jamestown, Upper Iowa, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville, among others.

Buckman marks the second commitment from the 2025 Wisconsin Swing team. Drew Murphy had previously committed to Northern Michigan.
