After missing the majority of his grassroots season last year, Jamison Zavatchin is an intriguing 2026 player to catch in the upcoming spring. The 6’4” small forward got hurt back at the beginning of April and then injured himself again in September. He was able to get cleared right before his high school season with Oostburg and made it count.
In his junior season, Zavatchin got off to what he called a “slow start” due to his injury but was still able to earn himself first team all-conference honors in the Big East South. He did this by averaging 21.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while helping Oostburg to a 20-7 season. “After the first eight games or so I got back in rhythm and finished off the year super strong and we had a lot of good team success as well,” Zavatchin said about the season.
“Physically strong wing player with a good post-up game. I have a lot of good finishing and footwork around the rim which helps with that. I’d say I’m also a solid shooter that can knock down the three,” Zavatchin said when describing his own game.
In the upcoming spring season, Zavatchin will once again be playing with Chapman North. “Continue to develop my perimeter game and shooting,” he is looking to accomplish in the coming months. “Especially with me playing in the post a lot for my school team. Another goal would be continuing to improve at making the other guys around me better by how I play. Mainly with things like passing and reading the defense to create good looks for others.”
Even with his first team all-conference high school season, the recruitment is just starting to develop. He has recently been hearing from some division three programs. Chapman North should have college coaches of all divisions looking at them with not just a healthy Zavatchin but also Kayden Schultz, Cade Dirkse, and others.
