Even with all his production and great upside, the recruitment of Bryce Wegrzyn has been relatively limited for being one of the top big men in Illinois’ 2026 class. While he does have interest from programs on multiple levels including several division one programs, the 6’8” big man has yet to pick up his first offer.
In his recent junior season, Wegrzyn averaged 19 points and 8 rebounds per game for Libertyville High School (IL). With this he was able to earn himself first team all-conference as well as all-area honors.
Some of the division one programs who have reached out to him just recently include Boston University, Lehigh, and Navy. This is in addition to many division two, NAIA, and junior college programs who have also shown interest.
When asked to describe his game, Wegrzyn said he is looking to “mold” himself into a more of a stretch four, five to be more ready to play at the college level. “Being able to come out and screen and pop and roll. Also, I need to be able to handle it and if I can get my shot more consistent that will help my game really go forward also work on getting stronger and quicker on the defensive end.” While Wegrzyn may be looking at a few aspects of his game to improve, he already has some very useful tools for the next level. In addition to being 6’8”, he is a high energy big who moves very well at his size. He has good strength to being effective playing with his back to the basket but can also play out on the perimeter and shoot the three.
Next up for the junior he will be playing with Breakaway Basketball on the Adidas 3SSB. “My overall goal is to show college coaches that I can impact my team winning,” he said about his upcoming grassroots season. “Also being able to show them my hustle on both ends of the court really showing them how I can impact the game without scoring but also making open shots to show them I can do it but more being able to rebound on both ends of the court being able to defend on the perimeter and in the paint just all of the things that can impact my team winning.”
Wegrzyn should be a very popular target in the coming months with division one programs as the focus turns more to the 2026 class.
