One of Wisconsin’s top prospects is on the move for his senior season. Taking his talents out West, former Grafton star Juan Guerrero Hernandez will play this fall at Veritas Prep in Calabasas, Calif.
“I really want to go somewhere and build my brand,” Guerrero Hernandez told NY2LA Sports. “A lot of schools don’t see me here. I want to go to the West Coast and make a name for myself.”
As a junior, Guerrero Hernandez averaged 20 points, six rebounds, and three assists per game. He reports scholarship offers from Mississippi State, DePaul, Iowa, Milwaukee, Arkansas State, Bryant, Albany, and New Mexico State.
The Hawkeyes jumped on board with a big offer in late April.
“It felt really good,” Guerrero Hernandez said. “As soon as that happened, it boosted my confidence.”
“I’m supposed to be taking a visit soon. I want to go when football season starts. I know they’re Big Ten. I love the Big Ten. Good competition, good guards.”
Guerrero Hernandez said Mississippi State is currently prioritizing him the hardest.
“They contact me every day,” he said. “They contact my dad, come to my games, watch me play in person. I’ve had great conversations with them. I’m supposed to visit them soon when football season starts.”
Guerrero Hernandez listed LSU, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Oregon, Iowa State, Marquette, Michigan, Villanova, and Providence as schools showing interest this summer.
“LSU talks to me almost every day,” he said. “I know we’re building a good relationship.
“Tennessee, I’ve talked to them for a while. Villanova, had interest in me sophomore year, but they’re just back coming on.”
Guerrero Hernandez has no official visits set at this time. The 6-foot-4 guard plans to commit prior to his senior season.
“A school that wants me for who I am,” he said. “I don’t want to have to change too much about my game.”
Guerrero Hernandez played for Wisconsin Playground Club during the travel season.
