After taking a visit just a week ago, Josh Pickett knew it was now time to make his commitment. On Friday, the 6’5” guard of St. Laurence High School (IL) announced his commitment to Denver University.
“Great,” was how Pickett first described his visit to the Denver campus last week. “The way the coaches saw me and talked to me about my game and how it would translate to college and the DU program was great because I could tell they know how I played and did a lot of research on me…I also loved watching practice and I got along great with all the guys. It was pretty crazy how fast I was able to get along with the players, but I appreciate having a great time with those guys.”
What played a key role in the commitment decision for Pickett was the coaching staff at Denver. “I really loved how Coach Wulbrun and staff at Denver saw me as a player. I’ve never seen another coaching staff that valued me and my play style as much I see and value myself, so that was a big deal for me. They truly understand and value my game. I also appreciate how they were one of the schools who didn’t flake after my injuries this summer. Finally, I like how Coach Wulbrun is known for turning around programs and making winners.”
“I see myself going in there and being able to play my style of play,” Pickett said about his future playing at Denver. “Which means doing whatever the team needs to win. Versatility has always been one of my greatest strengths as a basketball player…I just want to do whatever it takes to win the Summit League regular season and tournament”
Pickett chose Denver over his other offers which came from Eastern Michigan, George Washington, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Southern Illinois, UIC, and University of San Diego.
