This week Oregon landed their first commitment in the 2025 class. This came from JJ Frakes, a 6’5” senior shooting guard of Berrien Springs High School (MI).
The recruitment of Frakes to Oregon quickly came along over the past couple of weeks. Oregon assistant coach Mike Mennenga made the trip out to Michigan this month on the 12th for a game of Frakes. A few days after that, head coach Dana Altman extended an offer to the senior. It didn’t take for Frakes to make his decision after receiving his offer as he quickly committed to the Ducks.
While he has made his commitment to Oregon, he has yet to make the visit out to Eugene. Frakes will be the trip out west on January 2nd for his visit. “I have always followed the Ducks and known that is where I want to be,” Frakes said.
The recruitment of Frakes heated up right before his senior season. While Oregon was his only offer, plenty of other programs started showing interest in him. This included Arizona State, Boise State, Indiana, Iowa, Oregon State, Purdue, West Virginia, among several others. “Oregon was my first offer and I’m proud to say I accepted without hesitation. Who wouldn’t want to be a Duck and play under Coach Altman & his coaching staff.”
Coaching staff and style of play are the first two things Frakes said he likes about Oregon. “Coach Altman’s record speaks for itself. His dedication to Oregon and his years of consecutive wins is impressive. I know they believe in me and my ability. They will help me become an elite player. Coach Altman wants to make it to a final four and I want to help him get there.”
