Gus Donohue Breaks Down College Commitment

Over the past few weeks following his breakout summer with ALL IN, Gus Donohue became a very popular target with division three programs across the region. On Monday evening, the 6’4” two guard of DePaul College Prep (IL) announced his commitment to Oberlin College.

At the NY2LA Final Chapter back in July, Donohue showed his high skill set leading ALL IN. In just a single minute of play, the guard scoring 12 points while hitting four straight three pointers. “My summer with ALL IN was great,” Donohue said. “I really liked playing for my coach, Coach Rey. I also liked playing with my teammates…We ended up getting a lot of good wins and that is always the most fun for me.”

Oberlin College had offered him just a few weeks ago back in August. Other programs to extend an athletic offer to Donohue included Augustana, Carroll, and Lake Forest. “It seems they have a great culture that is built by really knowledgeable coaches,” Donohue said about choosing Oberlin. “Not only do they have a good culture, but they also have super skilled players at Oberlin who remind me of my teammates at DePaul. In the way that they are only focused on winning and all very selfless and team first.”

The commitment comes after Donohue took a couple of visits to Oberlin. “The first time I did open runs and toured the campus. It was awesome meeting all the players and coaches. Everybody was super nice, and it seemed like they were people I would want to be around. The second visit I went to a class at Oberlin and then had lunch with the coaches. I really feel like I got a good connection with them, so it was a good vibe and that’s what made me want to commit.”

When talking about his future playing for Oberlin, Donohue brought up being an elite defender and shooter for them. “There’s so much talent on the team there that I know the only way I will be able to make it on the court is through hustle and defense, and then hopefully all the other stuff will follow.” Before he heads to Oberlin, he still has his senior season at DePaul College Prep, the back-to-back state champions.
