After making a name for himself between his freshman season at Edgewood High School as well as his grassroots season with Wisconsin Academy, AJ Gnewuch made a big move. This was a move down to Florida for a new high school for the 6’4” guard. Already as he starts his sophomore year, he has an elite blend of positional size, athleticism, length, and a well-rounded offensive skill set.
Gnewuch had a standout freshman season in which he averaged 11.8 points for Edgewood to earn himself honorable mention all-conference honors. Now for his sophomore season, he will be attending a national powerhouse program in IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. “My decision on transfer to IMG was to improve my game, get exposed to more competition and get more exposure,” he said about his switch of schools.
When talking about his experiences so far at the prep school, Gnewuch stated “IMG has been great. I’ve been working out every day getting better. I’ve learned that basketball is more than just a physical game it also takes a lot of mental also.”
During the course of the spring and summer, Gnewuch proved to be one of the top guards in the regions 2028 class. This season included games of 23 points and 20 points at the NY2LA Spring Extravaganza while leading Wisconsin Academy to a 4-0 tournament. Then into the summer, he helped Wisconsin Academy go undefeated at 5-0 at the NY2LA Final Chapter followed by going all the way to the championship game of the NY2LA Summer Jam tournament the next weekend. “Last season was a great season with Wisconsin Academy. My team was good all-around and played under a great coach Troy Slaby.”
