Over last year’s grassroots season, Antwon Pollard had a breakout summer while playing with Renaissance University. The 6’2” wing guard has continued this play into his sophomore season with Harvest Prep (OH).
With Pollard as well as Breaker Heller, Reinaldo Perez, and others, Renaissance University was one of the top teams at the 15U level of the NY2LA Association last season. Throughout the season, the game of Pollard continued to greatly grow as he helped them reach the championship game of the Summer Jam tournament. “Overall, we had a pretty good season and we had a pretty good record we lost a couple of tough games but we will come back next year stronger and ready to compete,” Pollard said about the season.
Now onto his sophomore high school season, Pollard is averaging 10.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals for 10-6 Harvest Prep. For goals for the rest of the season, “return back to the state game but win this year. Personally, my goal is to become a better all-around player and get better as a perimeter defender.”
“I’m an overall pretty good defender,” Pollard said when first describing his own game. “I have a nice touch around the rim. I can shoot the ball from all three levels, and I can also play above the rim.” Over the course of the summer tournaments on the NY2LA Association, he had several twenty plus point games. He showed the ability to be a very good shooter hitting four threes in a game but also be an effective playmaker off the dribble getting to the basket. Moving forward, Pollard is looking to improve his outside shooting percentage and get more athletic.
