Throughout this season on the NY2LA Association, Luke Westerdale was not only one of the top scorers at the 15U level but also one of the top players. With his outstanding play throughout the entire season, the 6’0” sophomore guard of The Academy and Gabriel Richard High School (MI) earned first team all-association honors but in addition to offensive player of the year honors.
As well to the two honors, Westerdale has started to attract college interest for himself. One of the schools being Eastern Michigan University, which he recently took a visit to the nearby school. “It was great, I loved the campus,” Westerdale first said about the visit. “Really great meeting the coaching staff and being on the (football) field pregame was very cool too. They were super friendly and definitely made it seem like I was wanted.”
When describing his own game on the hardwood, Westerdale stated “A three-way offensive player. I score very well from the outside and when they decide to run a defense to try and stop me from shooting, I have great handle so I am able to get around them and attack to finish or drop it off. Plus, I have solid defensive instincts.”
With all his accomplishments over the spring and summer, his attention is now moved to having success for his high school. After a successful freshman season, he is looking to grow his career point total to one thousand points and most importantly winning a state championship.
