It was a breakout grassroots season for 6’6” forward Tait Wetzel of Heritage Hills High School while playing with Indiana Elite Wetzel. Following this season, the junior has picked up his first offer.
The offer for Wetzel came earlier this month. It came from Brescia University, an NAIA program located in Kentucky. When asked about Brescia, Wetzel said “I like Brescia because it’s close to home. I had a good connection with coach Karn and like his way of coaching. I think he is trying to build the program up in the right way. I’m planning to major in business and Brescia has a pretty good program for that.”
When asked about the feeling of his picking up his first offer, Wetzel said “It felt great to get the first one. It just kind of showed me that my hard work was paying off. It gives me more of a motivation to keep going every day.”
“A a four who can stretch the floor and shoot when needed to,” Wetzel first said to describe his own game. “I think my best trait is using my body to get downhill and finish strong. I like to take my time in the post waiting for the best opportunity whether that’s a kick for an open shot or the best shot I can get.”
Wetzel is a high upside forward who has some size at 6’6” in addition to good length and a versatile skill set. At each of his three NY2LA tournaments in June and July, he averaged 13.8 points or more per game while shooting over 50% from the field in each of them. He was also one of the better rebounders in each of these tournaments with averaging 6 or more in each tournament.
