Even before reaching high school, Ethan Vahl had proven plenty. This included being MVP of the Generation Next All-Star Camp and multiple tournament championships on the GNBA. As he transitioned on the high school scene this past season, the high level of play continued for the 6’2” point guard at Oswego High School (IL).
Even as just a freshman, Vahl earned himself All-State Special Mention honors by the IBCA in addition to all-area and all-conference honors. In the all-state season, he averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3 assists, per game. He called the season a great experience as well to saying, “I learned a lot and really enjoyed being around my teammates.”
While most players moving to the high school level take some time to adjust to the speed and physicality, that was certainty not the case for Vahl. “I’ve been working hard for years which helped me prepare for high school basketball. My coaches believed in my potential and gave me the opportunity to prove myself,” he said about his success.
This spring Vahl is playing with the Meanstreets program. “Stay healthy, get better, receive my first college offer, win Peach Jam,” are his goals.
Already at a young age, Vahl already has a great combination of talents. This includes advanced point guard tools highlighted by his high IQ, court vision, and distributing in addition to his great shot making. “All-areas,” Vahl said when it comes to what he is working on to improve his game. “But really need to continue working on my body and getting stronger so that I can play more physical.”
