Marquette struck big on the recruiting trail on Friday as 2013 SF Deonte Burton of Brewster Academy (NH) verbally committed to Head Coach Buzz Williams and the Golden Eagles.  This is a coupe for Coach Williams and Marquette as Burton is one of the most explosive and powerful athletes in the country and a consensus top 25-50 national prospect in the 2013 class.

A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Burton has long been regarded as one of the premiere talents in the 13’ class nationally and seems like a perfect fit for the Big East style of play given his power, athleticism, and overall toughness when he takes the court.  Burton was one of the top priorities for Marquette in the 2013 class and the young talent took notice, “I feel like home at Marquette and Coach Buzz and the rest of the staff have done a great job of treating me and my family as a priority during the entire process from day one.”

Burton took an unofficial visit to Marquette on Wednesday and didn’t need to think about it too much after that as he was sure that Marquette was the spot, “The school is a perfect fit to me both in an academic sense and a basketball sense”, he added “Everyone on the team has taken me in as one of their own, the staff has been respectful of me and my family, and I think Coach Buzz can help me continue to improve as a player and a person…Marquette is where I want to be.”

Burton played this past summer for Bryan Johnikin and the T.P. Elite program regarded by many as one of the top 17U teams in the country despite playing up with virtually all 2013 prospects this year.  Johnikin felt the same as Burton about Marquette, “Buzz is a real guy and throughout the process he made Deonte and his family feel comfortable and at home while treating them with a great deal of respect,” he added “I think Marquette is a great fit for Deonte in terms of the coaching, their style of play, the elite level of the conference as a whole, and the opportunity for Deonte to get a quality education and become the best player and person he can be during his college years, I am very happy for him.”
