We’re looking at players who are a bit under the radar currently and are poised to take their game to the next level in the upcoming high school season. College coaches will want to have their eyes on these five this winter.
Nasir Avery - 2027 - PG - Brookfield Central
Avery was a major stock booster during the grassroots season. While he had an honorable mention junior season for Brookfield Central in which he averaged 8.6 points, his game was taken to another level during the grassroots season with Team Herro National. He has a great blend of abilities with both his high level scoring as he was one of the better scoring guards on the NY2LA Association but can also run the point well and defend the ball. Avery is a skilled shot maker but also gets into the paint effectively and passes it well on the move. Look for Avery to take his game to the next level in his senior season.
Owen Birschbach - 2028 - SF - New Holstein
Over the past year, Birschbach has played as one of the top wing forwards in Wisconsin’s 2028 class. This started in his sophomore season in which he averaged 18.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists to earn first team all-conference honors. This continued into the grassroots season with Mammoth Basketball where he was one of the top 16U players on the NY2LA Association. As well as being 6’5”, Birschbach has a highly well-rounded game with a versatile offensive game plus plays with good energy and physicality. Birschbach can do a bit of everything on the court and should be getting on college coaches' radars.
Joseph Lubbe -2027 - SG - York
There are few players in the entire region who took their game to the next level during state playoffs as much as Lubbe did last season. This included leading York all the way to the Illinois 4A state semifinals game. If Lubbe can play anywhere near that level, he will be among the state's top senior wing guards. There is much to like from his game with his positional size at 6’4”, outside shooting ability, energetic play, and good ability to defend the ball.
Brady May - 2027 - SF - Palatine
May showed good growth in his junior season with Palatine in which he earned himself honorable mention all-area but has all the tools to take his game to another level this season. As well as having some size on the wings standing at 6’6”, May also has good skills. He is a versatile wing forward who shoots it very well from three as well to having some length, plays with good energy, and knows how to play. While he’s a bit of an under the radar prospect, he has plenty of tools for the next level.
Will Still - 2028 - PG - Waukesha West
From the consistent play Still has shown over the past several months with 24Up, Still is poised for a breakout junior season following his sophomore season in which he earned honorable mention all-conference honors. There is much to like from the junior’s game as not only can he be a pure point guard with his high IQ play, handle, great passing ability to create for others but also shoot it well from three.
