Last summer Elijah Poniewaz emerged as one of the top 2028 guards in the region while capturing the NY2LA Association championship. Since then the point guard of Chaminade Prep (MO) has continued to see his recruitment build.

Over his grassroots season while playing with the KC Run, Poniewaz continued to see his recruitment greatly build. He received his first division one offer back in May which came from Drake and was then offered by Northern Iowa just days after that one. Then during the summer he added an offer from Southeast Missouri State. More recently, the junior added an offer from Southern Illinois this past weekend.

When talking about the most recent program to offer him, there are some things that Poniewaz likes about Southern Illinois. “The thing I like most about SIU is the history and the coaching staff. They have a lot of good guards that came out of SIU and a lot of years coaching college basketball on staff helping them reach their goals.”

In addition to his four offers, Poniewaz also has several other division one schools recruiting him. This includes Belmont, Liberty, George Washington, and San Diego. To date, he has already visited Northern Iowa, Southeast Missouri State, and Southern Illinois. He would also like to visit Belmont, Liberty, George Washington, and San Diego.

For his upcoming junior high school season, Poniewaz has some lofty goals. This includes winning a state championship, Gatorade Player of the Year, and a 4.0 GPA.
