Earlier today issue one of this series featured Cormac Hanus, Byron Jones, Kameron Shannon, Niko Jurko, and Brayden Smith. Though of course there are plenty of others in the region to look out for this high school season so here are five more to look out for.

Tayte Cordova - 2027 - G - Warren Township

Cordova has seen a real boost in his recruitment recently with several college offers coming from division three and junior college programs and should only continue to see this build with his well-rounded play. He is a skilled 6’2” combo guard who knows how to play. Cordova has good shot creating ability, plays strong with the ball in his hands, has a high basketball IQ, and plays with good energy defensively. Cordova will have much great opportunities in his senior season for Warren Township with some key departures.

Cam James - 2027 - G/F - Hoffman Estates

James is an under the radar talent who has started to emerge over the past few months, this included being one of the top wings at the loaded Riverside Brookfield Shootout. He is a strong 6’4” wing who can score it effectively from all three levels while creating for himself. He is a well-rounded player with his aggressive rebounding, passing ability, and knows how to play.

Gus Johnson - 2027 - PF - DePaul Prep

Johnson has continued to show some progression over the past couple of years to be among the top big men in Illinois’ 2027 class. He is a 6’8” power forward with a solid build and some agility. He can be a true interior presence on both ends of the floor but has also shown a growing overall game. This includes an improved jumper being able to shoot the three and play face up to the basket.

Sam Fait - 2027 - SG - Catholic Central

While Fait recently received a division two offer from South Dakota Mines, he should have more college coaches looking his way in his senior season. Fait has a great blend of abilities with his positional size, athleticism, and scoring ability. The two guard stands at 6’4” in addition to his great bounce. Fait was also one of the top scorers in all of Wisconsin last season as a junior as he averaged 27.5 points per game with his versatile three level scoring ability.

Jared Van Donselaar - 2028 - F - Grayslake North

Van Donselaar has continued to progress over the past couple of years and could be in for a breakout junior season with all of his abilities. Not only does he bring some size in the front court at 6’7” but has also shown a versatile skill set as well with growing perimeter tools. This includes both being able to handle the ball and make plays off the dribble but also shoot it well spotting up from three. He is also effective using his size as a shot blocker, finishing around the paint and scoring from the mid-range.
