From the recent NY2LA Futures Camps, there were plenty of breakout players among the camps 2029 and 2030 attendees. One of the biggest breakout players of the entire event was Marcus Bonilha, a 6’4” wing of Whitefish Bay High School (WI) and DFTP Elite.

As part of Bonilha’s breakout performance, he was named MVP from the 2029 group at the NY2LA Future Camp. This was in addition to being named the fifth best prospect amongst the sophomores of the camp.

During his freshman season, Bonilha played on the JV team for Whitefish Bay, whose varsity team won the state championship. With the great growth in the game of the wing, he is looking like a player who can be an extremely impactful contributor at the varsity level in his upcoming sophomore season.

“Athletic, versatile player who can attack the rim, finish above the basket, and create scoring opportunities for myself and my teammates” he first said when describing his own game. “I like playing aggressively while using my athleticism to impact both ends of the floor.” Not only did he stand out with his athleticism and ability to attack the basket, but also his well-rounded game in addition to high energy play. He played with one of the biggest motors of the entire camp to be a highly impactful player throughout the camp on both ends of the floor. Play after play, he was simply outworking everyone else on the floor.

Even with the great growth in his play, there are a few different aspects that Bonilha is looking to improve upon. “I want to improve my ball handling, especially with my left hand and become a more consistent shooter. Also get better at creating opportunities for myself and my teammates. I also want to get stronger, improve my finishing through contact and become a more confident and complete guard.”

In his upcoming sophomore season, Bonilha is looking to earn himself a starting spot, improve as an all-around player, and help his team win as many games as possible.
