While Lavonte Johnson is just starting his sophomore season, he has already started to see his recruitment start up. This includes the 6’5” guard of Marshall High School (WI) recently receiving his first division one offer.
In the current recruiting landscape, the great majority of high schoolers are seeing their recruitment delayed. Though this is not the case for Johnson who was offered by San Diego State last month in September. “It’s a blessing to pick up my first offer,” Johnson said. “It gives me a lot of motivation to keep going and hopefully I can pick up more.”
When asked about the first school to offer him, Johnson said “One thing I like about San Diego State is the coaching philosophy. Also because this was the first school to believe in my potential. Also, it has a beautiful campus, good weather.”
As well to the early offer, Johnson is also seeing interest from several other programs. Amongst these are some Big Ten programs including Ohio State and Wisconsin.
Over the past year Johnson has proven himself to be amongst the top recruits in Wisconsin’s 2029 class. He’s an athletic and lengthy 6’5” guard with unlimited upside and has the potential to be among the top 2029 recruits in the entire Midwest region. “A big guard that’s a three level scorer and playmaker who plays with pace and athleticism. I can defend multiple positions,” he said, talking about his own game.
For his sophomore season, Johnson has made the move to Marshall High School. As a freshman he attended Madison Memorial High School. As just a freshman, he played a significant role in helping them advance all the way to the state championship game.
