Over the past few months, some players in the 2028 class have started to see their recruitment get off the ground. One of these players getting an early start in their recruitment is Mario Romo, a 6’5” wing of North Fond du Lac and All Wisconsin.

Earlier this month, Romo picked up his first offer. This came from William Penn University, an NAIA school in Iowa. “Receiving my first offer honestly felt like a dream come true, it was an amazing feeling! I am so grateful for this opportunity and for the coaches believing in me and my game,” was the junior’s feeling about getting his first offer.

When asked about his feelings on the school that gave him his first offer, Romo said “I like the competitiveness that WPU has as a program. In the 2025-2026 season they finished strong with a 25-7 record and 16-4 in conference. They are dedicated, focused on player growth and development and helping players reach their full potential. I’m excited about continuing to learn more about WPU.”

While William Penn may be the only offer so far for Romo, he has had interest from multiple other college programs. This includes ones ranging from division one like Bowling Green State to division three programs.

Over the past year, Romo has continued to emerge as a name to know in Wisconsin’s 2028 class. This started in his sophomore season when he averaged 17.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.2 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game to earn second team all-conference honors. His breakout play only continued in his grassroots season with All Wisconsin which included being one of the top 2028 wings at the NY2LA Summer Jam tournament. “Versatile, aggressive and team-oriented,” is how Romo described his own game. He’s an athletic and energetic 6’5” wing who has shown the ability to do a bit of everything on the court.
