While the MVP honors of the NY2LA Junior/Senior Showcase were won by Marion Boyland, Jayce Cook, Corvallis Stewart Jr, and Ethan Vahl, there were many other standouts in attendance. Here is the first group of other highly talented standouts from the showcase who all excelled. .
D’Anthony Brown - 2027 - PF - MAS - Power 5
Brown has plenty of translatable tools for the next level and great upside as he stands at 6’6” with great length and is an explosive athlete. He was one of the top defenders of the showcase being able to defend nearly anyone on the floor with his size and athleticism in addition to being a natural shot blocker with his energy covering a ton of ground and a quick jump. His energy was also seen as a highly active rebounder. Brown scored the ball running the floor hard in transition as well as being a lob threat finishing it strong for several and one plays during the event.
KJ Cross - 2027 - G/F - Madison Memorial - Wisconsin Dynasty
With his performance throughout the entire camp, Cross more than deserved his spot here as one of the top players in attendance. This included being one of the top scorers of the entire camp which included scoring 28 points in just his first game. He was very consistent using his size and aggressiveness to attack the basket and finish at a very high rate. At 6’6” with his strong build, he was just powering his way through defenders. He also used his physical tools to rebound the ball well in addition he also showed a good passing ability tool. As the game of Cross continues to grow, he should attract greater college interest.
Jordan Evans - 2028 - PG - Living Word Lutheran - Team Herro
Evans was one of the top scorers of the showcase. He excelled with his play on the attack, often getting all the way to the basket. The junior was often beating defenders both as a physical and aggressive straight line driver as well as good moves with the ball to score it in bunches. Evans was also playing with good energy on the defensive side both defending the ball and denying it playing with some quickness.
Sam Fait - 2027 - SG - Catholic Central - 24UP
Fait displayed a wide range of tools throughout the showcase to be one of the top players and prospects in attendance. This includes his positional size in the backcourt at 6’4”, scoring ability, great athleticism, and feel. Fait scored it very effectively as a knockdown spot up shooter as well as on drives and cuts and using his great bounce to finish at the rim. Fait recently picked up an offer from South Dakota Mines, a division two program.
Gary Thorpe - 2027 - PG - South Division - Jay Academy
From his great play that he showed throughout the grassroots season with Jay Academy, Thorpe continued to build from there with his standout performance here. He is an ultra quick point guard that was making a ton of plays all showcase. While he excels playing on the attack using his speed and moves to fly by defenders, he has also good shot making ability to score it effectively from all three levels and be one of the top scorers of the showcase.
Derek Williams - 2028 - G/F - Waukesha North - Team Hali
It has been a breakout year for Williams who has only continued to improve and is now looking like one of the top recruits in Wisconsin’s 2028 class. He has good physical tools as a 6’5” wing with a strong build, his skill set has greatly developed too. This was really seen during the showcase as an improved shooter consistently hitting some threes and shots off the dribble as well as playing quicker with the ball with improved handle. He also uses his size effectively to be a physical driver and finish at the basket. With these improved skills, Williams is such an intriguing junior for college coaches to see with his great blend of abilities.
