From MVP’s to part one of the standouts, we move one now to the second article of standouts from this weekend's NY2LA Future Camps. The camp featured many of Wisconsin and the area's top 2029 and 2030 recruits and players.
Xayden Gamboa - 2029 - G - Oswego
Gamboa had himself a standout camp from the outside. The 6’2” guard was one of the top shooters of the entire camp hitting plenty of threes throughout the camp. He has great form on his jumper and was just not missing when he was spotting up from deep. He also plays with great energy on the defensive side of the ball.
Parker Klein - 2029 - SG - Middleton - Wisconsin Swing
As well as having good positional size as a 6’4” two guard, Klein was also one of the top scorers of the entire camp. He is an incredibly versatile scorer who was getting it done in every way throughout his games. Klein excelled with his strength, with tough attacking play to the basket but also used his jumper to score it from all three levels. He even used size inside to post up smaller guards.
Ju’vonta Leach Jr. - 2030 - PG - West Allis Central - Team Herro
In so many areas of his play, Leach showed a very high skill level, this was both with his offensive and defensive play. He really works on the defensive side as a tough and aggressive defender who is tough to beat off the dribble and plays with very active hands. On the offensive side, he showed a well-rounded game as the point guard distributed and scored the ball well on the attack with good court awareness. In addition to showing a good jumper hitting some threes.
Damani Morris - 2029 - SG - Deforest
As well as having great size in the backcourt at 6’4” and athleticism, Morris also showed good abilities with the ball in his hands. He excelled on the attack, beating defenders with both his physicality from his solid frame in addition to good moves with the ball. As well, Morris also shot the ball well off the dribble from three. As a sophomore, Morris already has a lot of tools and knows how to play.
Quincy Sims - 2029 - G - Madison West - Legacy Elite
Sims was one of the top two-way guards of the camp as well as having size in the backcourt at 6’3” with a good frame too. He showed the ability to run the point, distributing the ball well. Sims really looked to create for others while also showing a good passing ability. He also scored it effectively himself as a strong driver and used his length to finish it effectively all around the rim. On the defensive side, he is tough to beat off the dribble and uses his length well getting into the passing lanes.
Korben Sugars - 2029 - PG - St. Catherine’s - Team Hali
Whether it was in games or in drills, Sugars was consistently playing at a high level and making a ton of plays. He was extremely effective on the offensive side with his outside shooting, distributing, and play on the attack. Sugars is a confident shooter that hit a few threes in each of his games. He is also a shifty point guard with tight handles that was consistently beating defenders playing well both in the open floor as well as in traffic, being able to get into the paint as well as pass it well on the move.
