Another of Illinois’ top senior recruits has made their college commitment to an Ivy League program. This one came from Ed Stasys. The 6’8” forward of Benet Academy and the Illinois Wolves made his selection of Yale.

This is a major addition for Yale and head coach James Jones as Stasys was one of the top forwards in the entire Midwest region in the 2027 class. Not only was Yale able to beat out other Ivy League programs but also high major ones. He received a lengthy list of offers including ones from Central Michigan, George Washington, Harvard, Illinois, Illinois State, Northern Illinois, Toledo, and others. Yale had offered him back in May of this year.

“I’m excited to announce my commitment to Yale University,” Stasys said in his commitment post. “Thank you God, my family, and all of the coaches that have helped me along my journey. Thank you Coach Jones and the entire Yale staff for giving me this opportunity and believing in me. Let’s do it.”

Over the past year, Stasys has continued to be a breakout player and emerge into a highly sought after recruit and the top forward in Illinois’ 2027 class. In his junior season at Benet, he helped them advance all the way to the 4A state title game and the year prior as a sophomore, he helped them win the state championship. Yale is landing a forward with a unique blend of abilities with some size at 6’8”, explosiveness, big motor, solid build, in addition to growing perimeter tools. He has become improved and quicker handling the ball but can also score posting up and be a dominant rebounder.

With the addition of Stasys, Yale is putting together a very strong 2027 recruiting class. He joins 6’10” center Isaac Gonda and 6’6” wing Preston Echols.
