While it is still extremely early in the basketball careers of the 2029 class, Zahari Threatt is a name to know. From his freshman season at De La Salle and then even more into his grassroots season with the Mac Irvin Fire, the 6’7” forward has emerged as one of the top prospects in Illinois’ 2029 class.

“I’m physical. I play with a very high motor,” Threatt said when first describing his own game. “I’m like a Brandon Ingram mix with KD. I’m an all around player. My defense is very good and I crash the boards.” Threatt has continued to build his unique combination of abilities that many sophomores don’t have. As well as his size at 6’7”, length, and mobility, he is an explosive athlete that consistently plays with a ton of energy to be a highly impactful player. He has proven to be a dominant interior player on both ends of the floor as well as showing flashes to a well-rounded game too. With all of this, he has one of the higher upsides of all 2029 players in Illinois as well as the Midwest region. Threatt is looking forward to “keep getting in the gym” to improve upon his handles and shot.

From all of this, there have already been several division one programs including some high majors to show some early interest in the forward. This includes DePaul, Illinois, Loyola Chicago, and Northern Illinois.

For his sophomore year, Threatt has some goals both on and off the court. “My goals for this upcoming season is to average a 3.1 or higher, become the best student athlete I can be and win a state title.”
