After seeing his recruitment soar over the past few months, Zion Braimah has announced his college commitment. This came on Tuesday with the 6’7” wing forward of Breakaway Basketball and Pecatonica High School (IL) choosing Navy.

“The great environment of hardworking people I’m going to be around,” Braimah said about why he chose Navy. He added in “Great high level D1 basketball in the Patriot league and the opportunities that come alongside basketball at the Naval Academy.”

The commitment comes after Braimah just made his official visit to the Annapolis, Maryland campus earlier this month on the 3rd-5th. “It went great. I think it really helped me decide,” he said about the visit. On his thoughts about attending a service academy, he said “I was not always interested in going to a service academy, I didn’t really know what the Navy was. I talked to coaches and did research, then I became interested.”

Regarding his future on the court for Navy, Braimah said “I see my game fitting in at a wing position, kinda at the four or three. I think my size, athleticism, defense, and rebounding abilities will fit in well, along with my ability to get to the rim and catch and shoot.”

Over the course of this year, Braimah has been one of the fastest rising players in Illinois’ 2027 class. He entered the spring without a scholarship offer. It wasn’t until May when he picked up his first offer which came from Saginaw Valley State, a division two program. He then received his first offer from a division one program later on in May coming from Toledo. He added a few more division one offers which came from Holy Cross, Indiana State, and Illinois State. Navy was his most recent offer which came at the end of July.
