While it often takes for players to reach high school for their physical tools and skills to develop. Though for some, this starts earlier in their middle school days. One of these being Power 5 wing Braylin Calhoun.

Especially over the past several months, Calhoun has proven his tremendous abilities on the hardwood and an even brighter future as moves along in his basketball career. Even while playing up a level with the 14U Power 5 team while in the 2031 class, Calhoun had a tremendous spring and summer grassroots season. His stellar spring started with the NY2LA Swish N’ Dish Tournament. At this tournament he was a big piece of Power 5’s championships while being named first team all-tournament at the 14U level. The championships continued into the summer where Calhoun and Power 5 won the 14U Jr. 3SSB title back in June. As well to playing up at the 14U level, he also spent some time playing up at the 16U level too.

While he is still a year out from attending high school, Calhoun played at Wisconsin’s Badger Elite Camp this summer. “It was fun. It was nice to see the facility. It was also nice to talk about my other interests with the staff outside of basketball, like my love for hunting and fishing. I also have never been to a D1 basketball game in person before, so it definitely got me excited to get back to Madison and watch a game,” Calhoun said about his experiences at the camp.

Calhoun possesses a blend of abilities you do not often see at his age. This includes his explosive athleticism, physical tools at 6’4” plus his length, versatile defensive abilities, and a growing versatile offensive game. “A Josh Hart or Yaxel Lendeborg type,” is what he first said when describing his own game. “I like to do everything that helps the team win. Rebound, play defense, share the ball, score if need be. I love to guard the other team’s best player full court. Just wired to compete against the best I’m going against.”

Up next for Calhoun is his middle school season with Milwaukee Academy of Science.
