In the current recruiting landscape, there are more under the radar players than ever. Ian Newble, a 6’7” senior wing of D Rice Elite has proven to be one of the under the radar players in the regions 2027 class.

This come following a breakout grassroots season with D Rice Elite. Following a junior high school season in which he was a bit limited for a player of his abilities, Newble went on to be one of the more impactful and versatile wings on the NY2LA Association during the spring and summer. When talking about his grassroots season, Newble said that he had a really good season and that he grew as a player.

Newble is a highly unique player while standing at 6’7” with his blend of tools. This is highlighted by his length, athleticism, and versatile game. “6’7” guard, forward that can handle the ball and shoot the three,” he said when describing his own game. He also talked about being a good rebounder, defender, and ability to defend one through five. All these abilities were consistently seen throughout the entire grassroots season as he was a big reason D Rice Elite was one of the top 17U teams on the NY2LA Association. Whatever was needed of the wing throughout the entire season, he got done. He is the type of player who can play out on the perimeter handling the ball and consistently hit threes but then also go down in the paint and battle versus size. One aspect of his game that he is looking to improve upon is his aggression.

While Newble is under the radar for player with all his abilities, he has continued to grow the number of schools recruiting him including several division two programs. Included in this group are Grand Valley State, Northwood, Saginaw Valley, and Wayne State. So far, he has taken one visit which was to Northwood. “The campus was really nice. I enjoyed watching the team practice and what the coach was teaching,” he said about the visit.

While Newble has seen this recent recruitment growth, he is certainly a player to track in the coming months. With all his tools and the continued growth of his game, it is only a matter of time before his recruitment takes off. There are few players who can match all his translatable tools for the college level.
