Even while playing up a level as a 2028 at the 17U level in this past grassroots season, Kobe Drake was a breakout star throughout the spring and summer. While playing with the Michigan Warriors, the 6’5” junior was one of the top wings on the NY2LA Association.

The great growth of Drake’s game started in his sophomore season. During the high school season for Ypsilanti Lincoln, he averaged 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. His game only continued to greatly grow during the spring with the Michigan Warriors. Back in April at the NY2LA Grassroots Showcase to open the season, he was named first team all-tournament at the 17U level. He did this by leading the Michigan Warriors to a 3-1 record while having a trio of twenty plus point games as well to a pair of double doubles. His high level of play only continued throughout the entire grassroots season. He was also named a top performer at each of the NY2LA Spring Extravaganza, Grassroots Invitational, and Summer Jam tournaments.

“A bigger point guard who can also play off the ball and make plays for my teammates.” Drake said when describing his own game. Over the course of the grassroots season, Drake consistently showed a good playmaking ability with the ball in his hands including running the point for long stretches. While he did show some outside shooting ability, he was his most effective with his play on the attack. As well to being 6’5” with the ability to handle the ball, he also has a strong build and is an aggressive downhill driver. Even up against quality defenders, he showed that he could just power his way right through them and finish at the basket amongst size.

With the rise in his play over the past several months, Drake has started to see some real growth in his recruitment. This includes interest from a few division one and two programs. Amongst the schools now recruiting the junior include Eastern Michigan, Ferris State, Hillsdale College, Wayne State, and others.
