The summer was stock boosting season for plenty of players across the region. Here are five more upperclassmen who took their game to the next level over the past couple of months.
Mykendrick Brazil – 2027 – PF – Team Hali
From a junior season in which he earned honorable mention in the Milwaukee City Conference, Brazil had a breakout summer with Team Hali. This included helping them win the NY2LA Association championship at Summer Jam. He is a strong 6’7” post that is very effective inside on both ends of the floor. Brazil proved to be an overpowering force inside using his build to score the ball at a high percentage bullying defenders but can also be effective facing up to the basket. The senior also plays with good energy with his interior defensively as well as a rim runner.
Antoine Cannon – 2027 – PG – Michigan Warriors
The point guard play was a key to the success of the Michigan Warriors during the grassroots season including multiple undefeated tournaments. While Cannon excelled with his point guard play and ability to create for others, he also put up some large point totals including 21 points in a win at the Grassroots Invitational tournament last month. Cannon is a skilled distributor on the move as he plays smart with the ball in his hands and passes it very well on the attack. He recently picked up an offer from Albion.
Yak Kizer – 2027 – PF – Kessel Heat
Kizer is an emerging power forward who shined with multiple standout games at the Grassroots Invitational last month. While he may only be 6’5”, Kizer plays much bigger with his physicality, strong build, and aggressive style of play. Not only can he overpower larger defenders to score in the post but can also face up to the basket plus hit jumpers in the mid-range and from three. His aggressiveness also translates to being able to rebound in bunches as well to being an active paint protector.
Reggie Stevens – 2027 – G – Team GPA
It was a big month of July for Stevens which included being one of the top scorers at the Grassroots Invitational tournament. During this tournament he averaged 18 points per game. Not only does the guard have great size in the backcourt at 6’4” but also a good ability to create for himself. Stevens plays well off the dribble both getting into the paint and using his size to finish all around the interior in addition to his shot making ability from the mid-range and three.
Ayouba Turay – 2028 – PG – Team Herro
At both the NY2LA Grassroots Invitational and Summer Jam tournaments during the July live periods, Turay was a major stock booster with his consistent standout play. This helped his team go 3-1 at the Grassroots Invitational then undefeated in pool play at Summer Jam. He is an athletic and lengthy point guard that is a skilled playmaker with the ball. Turay plays quick with the ball breaking down defenders getting all the way to the rim and finishing it strong but can also shot it consistently from three to have multiple 20 plus point game. More than just a scorer, he also passed it well on the attack while getting plenty of paint touches collapsing the defense.
