As the 2029 class begin their sophomore year, some of Wisconsin’s top players in the class are emerging. One of these being Drew Lenz, a 6’0” point guard of Team Herro and Winneconne High School.

Even going back to his middle school days, Lenz displayed that he is a special type of player with a highly advanced skill set. This was shown early on by winning MVP honors at the Generation Next All-Star Camp a whole three years ago. This continued into his days playing on the GNBA winning multiple championships during his middle school years. Now into his high school career, the point guard has continued to elevate his game to another level. This was greatly shown in his freshman season for Winneconne as he averaged a staggering 19.2 points in addition to 4 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 2.2 steals. He did this while shooting over 50% from the field as well to 39.2% from three. In this remarkable freshman season, Lenz earned himself second team all-conference honors.

His high level of play only continued into his grassroots season while playing with Team Herro. This included starting it off by being named second team all-tournament at the NY2LA Swish N’ Dish Tournament while helping Team Herro win the platinum championship. This run continued throughout the grassroots season as he finished the summer off with another championship at the NY2LA Summer Jam tournament. In this tournament he had one of the top scoring performances at the 15U level scoring 23 points in a game. “It was a really great experience. I got to play with some very talented players and compete against a lot of high-level teams. Playing against that level of competition showed me what I need to keep working on to get to the next level,” Lenz said about his grassroots season experience.

With just a year of high school completed, Lenz has an advanced combination of offensive skills, basketball IQ, and feel. This is in addition to not only being able to score the ball at a high level but also having good point guard tools. It is highlighted by his shot creating ability from both the mid-range and three while also being a very skilled passer who plays very poised with the ball in his hands. “I am always working on my defense,” Lenz said about how he is working to improve his game. “Right now, I’m putting a lot of time into strength and conditioning to help me be more physical in all aspects of my game.”

Next up for Lenz is his sophomore season at Winneconne. “To become a better leader both on and off the court,” he first said about his goals for this upcoming season. “I want to help put my teammates in positions where they can succeed and do whatever I can to help our team win by making an impact on both sides of the court.” As Lenz moves into his sophomore year and Winneconne losses their top two leading scorer from last season, Parker Ingles and Brody Schaffer to graduation, look for him to take another major leap in his basketball career.
