While the recruitment process has been delayed for the great majority of high school basketball players, there have still been a few elite ones receiving plenty of attention from college coaches. One of these being Drew Cabana, a 6’5” guard of Chelsea High School (MI) and Indiana Elite.
While Cabana is now just starting his sophomore year, his recruitment timeline is well underway. Over a year ago, he already received his first division one offer which came from Ohio University. Then during this summer, his recruitment started to really heat up reeling in a few more offers including some high major ones. These offers came from Rutgers, Bowling Green, Purdue, and most recently last week Creighton. “I was really excited to get the offers this summer. It really validated my hard work is heading in the right direction,” Cabana said about the recent growth of his recruitment.
In addition to his quickly growing offer list, Cabana has also started to generate interest from a larger amount of high major programs. Amongst these are Indiana, Iowa, and Michigan State.
The stock of Cabana truly elevated over the past few months while playing for Indiana Elite. While playing on the 3SSB this past season, he averaged 17.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He was also one of the top three-point shooters on the entire 3SSB circuit hitting 2.8 threes per game while shooting it at 43% from the outside. “Very balanced,” is how he described his own game. “I have a longer frame so I'm really working to defend all positions. Offensively I love a fast-paced game. I want to push the floor, catch the defense off guard and score in transition. I love coming off ball screens and can score on all three levels.”
