From his sophomore season with New Holstein High School (WI) and into his grassroots season with Mammoth Basketball, the game of 6’5” Owen Birschbach has continued to greatly build. Over this time in the past year, he has emerged as one of the top wing forwards in Wisconsin’s 2028 class.

The breakout play of Birschbach started in his sophomore season in which he earned himself first team all-conference honors in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference. He did this by averaging 18.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2 steals, a 1 block per game. Not only was it a high scoring season for him, but also an efficient one as he shot 63.5% from the field.

Then into the grassroots season, he was one of the top 2028 players throughout the spring and summer on the NY2LA Association. This included helping his Mammoth Basketball team to the final four of the NY2LA Association championships at Summer Jam tournament finishing off the season.

“I am a versatile forward who excels at attacking the basket and finishing efficiently around the rim,” Birshbach first said when talking about his game. This versatility in his game was on display throughout the grassroots season with his highly impactful play on both ends. As well to being 6’5” with a strong frame, he also has a well-rounded offensive game. This includes being effective both inside using his size and strength as well as on the perimeter making plays off the dribble with strong aggressive drives. His versatility also extends to the defensive side with his energetic play being able to defend multiple positions well. He added in on his game, “I read defensive coverage well and can consistently find open teammates when help collapses, making smart decisions when scoring opportunities on the drive aren’t available. I rebound aggressively on both ends of the floor and keep intensity high while defending and reading plays.” The parts of his game he is looking to improve upon include his overall quickness, agility, and outside shooting.

To follow up on his breakout sophomore season at New Holstein, Birschbach is looking to accomplish even bigger things in his upcoming junior season. “Elevate my overall performance and help drive greater team success. I am committed to increasing my statistical production, leading with consistency, and contributing to more team wins. I aim to reach 1,000 career points and surpass my school’s scoring record, while continuing to grow as a leader who strengthens our team’s competitiveness this season.”
