Following the summer live periods of June and July, we have officially moved into commitment season for the 2027 class. The newest division one commitment from the state of Illinois recently has been Jamier Montgomery. The recruitment of Montgomery quickly came along over just the past couple of weeks. This all ended in the 6’2” guard of Crane Prep and Young & Reckless program announcing his commitment this week to Kent State. 

On Monday, Montgomery made his commitment to Kent State and head coach Rob Senderoff. There were a couple of factors that the guard mentioned in making his decision to choose the Golden Flash. “Kent State has a good facility and coaching staff,” Montgomery said about selecting the MAC school. In addition to being offered by Kent State, he chose them over offers from Akron and Western Illinois.

Kent State had just offered Montgomery less than two weeks ago on July 20th. Next up in his recruitment there was making a visit to the Kent, Ohio campus. “My visit was very nice and fun to be on,” Montgomery said about the trip.

When asked about his future of playing for Kent State, Montgomery said “I think my game will translate because of the way they use the pick and rolls.” The guard also talked about his three-level scoring ability. In Kent State, Montgomery will be joining one of the top programs in the MAC. In each of the past two seasons they have won 24 games and went to the NIT in addition to going to the NCAA tournament in the 2022-23 season in which they won 28 games.
