Over the past few months, there are few players in the entire nation who have seen their recruitment grow as much as Alex Sirbu. The 6’9” rising senior post of Buffalo Grove High School (IL) and Breakaway Basketball entered the spring without a single scholarship offer and now has double digit division one offers.
It wasn’t until following the May live period in which Sirbu received his first offer coming from Oral Roberts. Since then, he has also added offers from Holy Cross, Northern Illinois, Purdue Fort Wayne, Columbia, Northern Iowa, UC-Davis, Illinois State, Arkansas Little Rock, and Cal State Fullerton. “It has felt amazing, and I’ve been incredibly grateful for all the opportunities,” Sirbu said about the great growth in his recruitment.
Not only has Sirbu been busy receiving offers but also taking and planning visits. To date, the post has taken official visits to Brown, Columbia, and Northern Illinois. Next up for him is a visit to Purdue Fort Wayne which is on August 29th. He is also in the process of scheduling visits to Illinois State, Holy Cross, and Richmond.
When asked about his game translating to college, Sirbu said “I see my motor and rebounding transferring well to the next level along with my post moves. I need to work on getting stronger to be able to hold my own at the college level.” With the growth of his game, he has proved to be one of the top big men in the regions 2027 class. As well to standing at 6’9”, Sirbu has a solid frame and can be an impactful big in the paint on both ends of the floor. He is a highly effective interior scorer posting up, from the dunker spot and using his physicality to back down defenders. He plays with plenty of aggressiveness and has a quick second jump to also be a dominant rebounder.
