Now on to part two of the ones to watch from the Grassroots Invitational.
Jayden Dozie – 2028 – PG – GPA
Even while playing up a level as a 2028, Dozie was one of the top distributors of the event which was on full display over multiple games. The playmaking point guard is incredibly quick with the ball in his hands changing directions so effectively often getting into the paint. He is always looking to distribute the ball, showed good decision making and passing it well on the move while also scoring it around the paint himself too with his floater.
Owen Hamilton – 2027 – PG – SMAC
With being one of the top shooters of the entire tournament, this helped SMAC go undefeated at 4-0 in the tournament. In a game on Saturday, the guard hit a three on the first play of the game and kept on shooting it well from there. Just in that game, Hamilton knocked down six threes in the win. He is pure shooter spotting up from three but also showed the ability to handle the ball, run the point effectively, and hit shots off the dribble. He also plays with good energy defensively to have multiple steals all in that one game as an active help defender.
Nate Munson – 2027 – PG – Illinois Flight
The point guard play and overall high impact of Munson helped the Flight to a 3-1 weekend. This was highlighted by his ability to create for others as he has great vision and is a skilled passer on the attack to have 7 assists in a single game. He also contributed by rebounding very well as a guard, tough on ball defense, and scoring on the attack. This was all in addition to showing an improved shooting ability hitting several threes during the tournament.
Spencer Spike – 2027 – G – WM Premier
What he may lack in size, Spike makes up with his high-level scoring ability. The guard showed a good ability to score the ball in a variety of ways. He shot the ball at a high percentage from three moving well without the ball and being able to quickly get into his shot off the catch. He also shot the ball well creating for himself in the mid-range while also scoring it on the attack with floaters.
Dezmond Tolliver – 2026 – SF – Michigan Warriors
As well to having good size at 6’6”, Tolliver is a well-rounded and impactful wing forward. He was consistently making plenty of plays throughout the tournament for his team to go 3-1 including going for 11 points and 8 rebounds in their final game. He showed a versatile scoring ability being able to spot up for threes, as a slasher, and also scoring some tough buckets inside. He plays with good energy rebounding the ball effectively on both ends as well as defensively being able to defend multiple positions well.
