Following up the two groups of standouts from the 17U, there were plenty of stock boosters as well from this weekends Grassroots Invitational.
Bryce Beal – 2027 – G – Team Herro
Beal is an athletic 6’3” guard that had one of the most impressive halves of the tournament. This was with 16 points just in the second half of a game leading Team Herro to a tight win. Beal scored it very effectively on aggressive drives to the basket, getting to the line, and hitting the offensive glass hard for put backs. More than just his scoring, he was very active making plenty of plays in the win including plenty of defensive stops, blocking shots in transition, and dishing out assists.
Tej Johnson – 2027 – G – Full Package
The guard was playing some his best basketball of the grassroots season in a 3-1 weekend for Full Package. He got off to an incredibly quick start scoring 8 points in the opening few minutes of his first game while hitting a pair of threes. His hot shooting continued throughout the tournament in multiple games hitting them at a high percentage spotting up. More than a shooter, Johnson also showed his ability to handle the ball well and get into the paint to both be a crafty finisher as well as be a facilitator. He was also playing with good energy defensively including taking a charge.
Arber Ljajcaj – 2027 – F/C – Reach Legends
Ljajcaj was one of the top stock boosters of the tournament showing great tools for the next level. While he has elite size standing at 6’10” he is also a mobile big man who showed a very good skill set at his size. This was highlighted by being a consistent spot up shooter from three as well as being able to make plays off the dribble. The rising senior big was able to drive all the way to the basket plus hit shots pulling up in the mid-range. He also showed the ability to be a rim protector blocking three shots in a single game. He was playing like one of the more skilled big men in the region and should be attracting scholarship level interest.
Jayden Phillips – 2027 – PG – 24UP
With multiple standouts games, Phillips was one of the top point guards of the tournament helping his team to a 3-1 record. With his moves and burst of acceleration, Phillips was consistently beating his man off the dribble to make plenty of plays while getting into the paint. This is in addition to his shooting ability hitting three threes in a game. With this, Phillips had multiple 20 plus point games but also passed it well on the attack creating for his teammates effectively too.
Reggie Stevens – 2027 – G – GPA
Stevens was one of the top scorers of the entire tournament while averaging 18 points a game. He has a good combination of positional size at 6’4” in the backcourt in addition to a well-rounded game. Stevens hit plenty of threes during the tournament shooting it well both off the catch and dribble. He also showed the ability to create off the dribble being able to handle the ball and use his size to get into the paint and finish there.
Theo Toepel – 2027 – G/F – Pro Lane
The consistent and impactful play continued into this tournament. This was especially the case in his Sunday game where Toepel was scoring the ball effectively and doing a bit of everything else too. Not only did the wing knock down a couple threes spotting up from the outside but also used his aggressiveness and to score some strong baskets inside versus plenty of size. He has some size at 6’5” but can play even bigger inside, but also continues to grow his ability as a playmaker with the ball.
Noah Tyler – 2027 – PG – Team Hali
Tyler has good length and showed the ability to run the point well, good shooting ability, as well as having some big moments. In overtime of a game, Tyler made some clutch plays including hitting a three to put his team up one and making a nice pass inside to get his teammate to the line. He is an impactful point guard as he rebounds well for his position playing with good energy, is a good decision maker running the point, and can pressure the ball effectively.
Cayden Vosters – 2027 – PG – Wisconsin Blizzard
Vosters excelled with both his shooting and point guard play helping the Blizzard go undefeated at 4-0 at the Grassroots Invitational. He shot the ball at a high percentage from deep including hitting three threes in a single half, while not forcing his shot at all. With the ball, he is a smart floor general that is a good decision maker. He showed a good ability to read the defense, draw defenders getting into the defense, and create for his teammates effectively with multiple drive and dump off assists.
