Out of all the highly talented players in Wisconsin’s 2027 class, one of the most talented point guards in the class is Massimo Ruz. With all his great point guard abilities, the rising senior of Pius XI Catholic High School and 24UP has started to attract greater college interest.
The newest development in his recruitment was taking a visit to DePaul recently back at the end of June. “It was an amazing experience and a great opportunity to keep learning,” Ruz first said about the visit. “Visiting a program like DePaul gave me a chance to see everything that goes into college basketball, the team culture, the importance of academics, the commitment, and the work that happens every day behind the scenes.”
When asked if there is anything he liked about DePaul, Ruz stated “I think what stood out to me the most was that everything has a purpose. It's not just about practicing or playing games, everything is designed to help you grow, learn, and prepare for the next level. I really liked the culture around the program, the commitment everyone has to getting better every day, and how much importance they place on both basketball and academics. Since I decided to move from Spain to the U.S., that's exactly what I've been looking for: a place that pushes me out of my comfort zone and helps me become the best player and person I can be.”
After sitting out his junior season at Pius XI Catholic due to transfer rules after making the move from DME Academy, Ruz is one of the more under the radar point guards in Wisconsin. There are few players who can match his playmaking abilities with the ball in his hands. This is highlighted by his tremendous ability to distribute the basketball. He has great floor vision to go along with his high level passing skills. On the attack, Ruz has such a great ability to create for others. This is in addition to his great elusiveness with his moves and quickness breaking down defenders. He also has good size at 6’3” in addition to being able to shoot the three.
